SPINE CLINIC

SPINE CLINIC is a health center that combines the knowledge and skills of an osteopath, a chiropractor, a physiotherapist and massage therapists. The goal is to offer our patients the best possible treatment to help them recover, retain or strengthen their mobility.

OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy is an internationally recognized and well-established form of manual medicine where the hands are used as tools in diagnosis and treatment. Common areas are lower back problem, ischias, Headache and knee pain. An Osteopath works to improve the body’s functioning using soft manual techniques such as stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. Osteopaths are often referred to as bone doctors, when in fact we focus on much more than just bones.

With gentle manipulation and adjustments, tense muscles are softened and any bodily misalignment corrected. With correct alignment blood flows better throughout the body, reducing the likelihood of repeat muscular injuries and also speeds recovery. Correct alignment also allows the nervous system to work most efficiently, and for optimal movement throughout the skeletal system, muscles, joints, ligaments and connective tissue.

Osteopaths are trained to help people with both acute and long-term problems. Most common areas are lower back problem, ischias and neck pain. Acute problems can arise for example, following a sports injury or pain after a heavy lift. Longterm problems and pain may have been caused by a prolonged overload, e.g. repetitive work-related movements. An Osteopath can also advise you on exercise, stretching and other methods that can help you to better health.

CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT

Chiropractic is an art and a practice. The art is in the hands of the doctor of chiropractic. The practice is founded in the truths of physiology: the body is self-healing and self-regulating. It’s a medical reality that compression of a nerve deprives normal afferent and efferent nerve signals to and from the brain. The resulting realities are pain, numbness, weakness, organ, skin -conditions and many, many more.

The advent of x ray in the late 1800’s allowed the healer of the time to visually determine the area of distress. A doctor of chiropractic, to this day, utilizes visual aids combined with what he/she recognizes with hands/touch, i.e., position, tension, stiffness, stress that elicits discomfort/pain, etc.

The doctors of chiropractic believe that providing his/hers adjustment to the vertebral bones of the spine can promote a normal communication between the CNS (central nervous system) and the PNS (peripheral) nervous systems.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy is mainly used to treat problems of the musculoskeletal system, but can also be used to treat spinal problems, respiratory diseases and many other conditions.

A Physiotherapist or Physical Therapist helps people who lost their motor functions due to illness, age or accidents, determines root cause of the trauma, counseling patients, creating a rehabilitation plan, creating plans like strength training, exercises, physical manipulation or stretching to help in easy recovery; educating patients on keeping them motivated during therapies and finally tracking the progress of patients.

Physiotherapists consider the body as a whole, rather than just focusing on the individual aspects of an injury or illness.

Some of the main approaches used by physiotherapists include:

– Education and advice – physiotherapists can give general advice about things that can affect your daily lives, such as posture and correct lifting or carrying techniques to help prevent injuries

– Movement, tailored exercise and physical activity advice – exercises may be recommended to improve your general health and mobility, and to strengthen specific parts of your body

– Manual therapy – where the physiotherapist uses their hands to help relieve pain and stiffness, and to encourage better movement of the body.

PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT

Some of the treatments that physiotherapists use are as follows:

– Massage to ease soft tissue pain, mobilization or manipulation of joints it is a manual technique,
– Ultrasound therapy to relieve pain and inflammation, reduce muscle spasms, and accelerate healing,
– Electrical stimulation (TENS; uses low voltage electrical current to provide pain relief)
– Exercise; an exercise plan that will likely include strengthening, mobility, or balance-building exercises.
